Working with a dog that is overcoming behavioral challenges can be a lengthy journey, and sometimes you just need a break. Maybe you are
taking a well-deserved vacation and want to make sure your dog’s training progress continues
feeling a bit burned out from working with your dog and need some time for self-care
raising a puppy and would like to have them socialized to new situations, people, and dogs.
feeling a bit overwhelmed dealing with your adolescent dog and their new antics
taking care of a personal situation and just don’t have the time to dedicate to training your beloved pup

What Do I Need to Know about Boarding School?

Who qualifies for Boarding School?
In short:
Existing clients and young dogs!
Boarding School is open to established clients currently enrolled in a training program with RYDT or those who have completed a training package with Verena.
Alternatively, Reward Your Dog Training also accepts recommendations from other force-free dog professionals, so if you are enrolled in a different learning program, reach out and let’s chat!
Reward Your Dog Training also offers Boarding School to puppies under the age of 9 months to help with socialization, on and off leash reliability and basic manners.

For dogs who are...
safe with cats
able to hear other dogs without experiencing significant stress
able to be away from humans behind a barrier occasionally, for example for feeding
not suffer from clinical separation anxiety*
non-destructive in the home
potty-trained**
up to date on vaccines and parasite prevention
*Your dog will not be left alone for more than 2-3 hours a day, but they need to be able to stay on their own for this time without stress, panic, or destructive behaviors.
**This clause will be waived if potty training is one of the learning goals for your dog’s stay.

What does Boarding School look like?
During a board & learn program, your dog lives with Verena in her home and receives at least 60 minutes of personalized, focused training over the course of the day as well as appropriate exercise and enrichment.
Boarding School includes:
appropriate exercise for your dog given their age and health
feeding and medication (if applicable) according to your specifications
lots of love, snuggles, and of course treats
60 minutes of focused training during the day
a full report complete with photos every day
a comprehensive written follow up document with a summary of Verena’s observations, the exercises and skills learned and ways to continue your dog’s training
